Life can take you by surprise. Often times, the things that seem the scariest and the most intimidating, have a bark that is far more fierce than their bite.
I recently saw a quote that said, “Remember why you started” a fact that is too easy to forgotten. To say this past week was a reminder of why I started writing and why I started freelance styling would be putting it lightly… the week was a strong backhand across the face of a reminder (I won’t lie…I needed it… perspective is a gift my friends).
I had the immense pleasure of working along side some amazing individuals on a music video forThe Wanted, the absolute sweetest guys you will ever meet by the way. Being on set and styling their hair was a dream and a half! It reminded me why I started doing hair at twelve years old; it makes people feel good, it is fun, and above all it was my first passion, my first love (and we never forget our first loves now do we).
The very next day I had the honor of attending the XOECO, Blue Avocado party with Lauren Conrad. Chatting with the girls behind her website and some of the amazing women from The Beauty Department was not only inspiring, but refreshing (thank you ladies for being the babes that you are!). That same day I sent a package of Anchor Paper Co. cards to an artist who has inspired Drew and I throughout our creative careers, and who, I have the honor of interviewing in the coming weeks. James Victore may seem unorthodox to some, but he is a legend and the absolute coolest.
Now, I don’t write this to… how shall I put this… toot my own horn, as my mother would say. But rather to give myself a kick in the pants for every time that I worry, every time I doubt, every time I fear that I am fu… messing up my life. This is a reminder of why I started.
What reminds you of why you started? Why do you do the things you do? And if you can’t remember… I’m always here to light a fire under your ass.
