Little did we know, in that moment, what we were setting into motion. Whiskey and wine sloshing gently against the sides of our glasses as they clicked together, toasting in celebration of a night to remember; it was a wedding after all. We were the few, the guests that maybe didn’t quite fit the decorum of a traditional (dry) wedding…
The front of house grew quiet as the bustle of the day faded away, melting into celebration and the glow of lights strung above the parking lot out back (it is like magic, isn’t it? How cafe lights transform a space into more than what it really is). Our beloved Handsome undergoing a metamorphosis from hustling cafe to a beautiful venue, celebrating a beautiful occasion. Dear friends joined together, by love and infinite hope for a brilliant future.
Music floated on the early summer breeze, begging for attention as the sun melted, rainbow sherbet, into the distant horizon. The lights glowed as the bride and groom shared in a dance, romance wrapped in emotion. And then…
I’m not sure what it was exactly, but something happened, something MAGICAL (it may be that I didn’t eat anything, it may be that I was drinking wine from a cup and straw like an adult juice box, then again we may never know).
The beat dropped and suddenly, our band of outcasts joined the masses on the dance floor. Everything changed, never to go back, the only thing was to let go and lean into the moment. Smiles burst like fireworks, exploding in laughter. The night passed in a blur, euphoric and sweet as honey.
The darlings packed into their car and headed for their honeymoon, we closed down the dance floor as Chris Brown crooned “Fine China” over the loud speakers.
As our heads hit the pillow and sleep took over, the night fell into a radiant dream.
