ATM life is all over the place.
For those of you not in 'the know', ATM stands for at the moment, it is not the ironically named machine from which you pull money out late at night to buy street tacos or early in the morning to have cash for the farmers market... well, to be fair it IS also that, but for today I am using it like the kids do.
ATM, I want to write about time and how it goes so fast. I feel like my friends kids are growing at the speed of light and time is changing the faces of everyone around me and in a place like LA where no one ever wants to grow up, this affect is increasingly alarming.
ATM, I want to write about 'craft'. Not like arts n' crafts, but the craft of dedicating yourself to a certain skill or career. I think craft has been lost in most places, people trading their love of skill and dedication to it, for momentary financial gain or internet fame (follow for follow?).
ATM, I am too distracted to write on either of those things because it is raining and for some reason rain in LA feels particularly profound. The air changes in the rain, the energy somehow feels more... real. LA is a place where you can easily forget what the real world looks like, how the real world functions. Land of the eternal sun, forever shining golden light on golden girls taking selfies. The rain changes that.
"In every life rain must fall"... I think in LA it is easy to forget that. We feel entitled to success, to perfection, beauty, and fame; forgetting how to cope when things don't work out the way we had planned. But the rain reminds us that the sun can't shine upon us every day, it makes us slow down, change plans, and reevaluate our priorities.
ATM, I need to slow down and rest in the process. The Divine is reminding me in the rain, giving me permission to take a moment, take a breath, and clear the air.
