As I mentioned yesterday Drew and I are currently developing a small addiction to a cartoon. Now, while one may think that a cartoon about a failing burger shop in a seemingly random coastal town would be far reaching, boring, and mildly pathetic…and while one could think that, they would be wrong. Which is why I am not ashamed to confess to our addiction.
I will admit that the first time I watched an episode of Bob’s Burgers I thought, “why on earth am I watching this!?” but then, out of nowhere, I found myself…smiling… laughing even and asking for another episode to be played. I didn’t understand, it was a cartoon about nothing relevant, it didn’t have substance, conceptually it was mediocre at best. But I loved it.
The characters are endearing. Kristen Schaal is a comedic genius, and her portrayal of a maniacal nine year old (Louise) will blow your mind. Tina is the most awkward child to ever grace television, wether in real life or in the land of animation. Gene is an equally awkward child with musical talents and a perfect “boy” sense of humor. Bob and Lynn, the “parental” type characters, drive the shows core “story line” if you can call it that.
Running the somehow perfect line of annoying, flailing, hilarious, crazy and brilliant; this show isn’t for everyone. But neither was the Simpsons or Family Guy, but somehow both of those shows have stuck around past their prime (sorry if you still love them, I never grew attached at the right age, therefore I don’t really care. I realize this is culturally unheard of and heavily frowned upon, but so is not liking cat videos [which I love, therefore making up for my failure... right?]).
Moral of the story- you should watch this show. It has an all star cast and guest characters, great animation style and incredible humor. It is short and sweet and allows for you to be temporarily entertained without committing to a movie or an hour long show.
The number of times I quote this show in a day is borderline inappropriate. So please, do me a favor and watch a few episodes (or become addicted) so that I can make off the cuff references without feeling like an idiot.
Thank you and happy weekend to you all!
