It is that sacred time of year once again. Where the seasons changing means, days growing shorter, socks growing thicker, and locking yourself indoors for days on end… I mean snuggling up with a good book and a steaming cup of chi-der (don’t worry there will be a recipe for this seasonal gem soon enough… though, come on, it is pretty self explanatory).
Any-who, I crave Fall! The changing of the leaves, the jackets, boots, scarves, and heavy sweaters! UH! SWOON am I right!? OH… but wait… I live in southern california where the temperature rarely drops below a balmy 60. I know, all you in tundra land are cursing me and my good fortune for living in a moderate climate, however, I would argue that though it is amazing, the moderation leaves little to the imagination (especially in the wardrobe department). Here we are, officially into Fall and it is sunny and 75… like it is every day and I can’t help but feel a little depressed.
I WANT CRISP AIR! Is that too much to ask? Come on LA, I know you are capable of some crispy mornings. BRING IT ON! (confession, the last two mornings have been cool and cloudy, and I was blissfully happy)
OK, maybe I am being a tad dramatic. But you guys, it is cider season, pumpkin pie season, it is the season of all things FALL FOOD! (I love fall food*… I love fall clothes… I love fall weather… I LOVE FALL). Speaking of which, there is a shocking lack of fall knowledge in the greater Los Angeles area! I have mentioned pumpkin doughnuts three times (truly… I have mentioned them to anyone who will listen) in the last week and not a soul knew what they were! When I explained cider mill doughnuts to people their eyes glaze over in a dream like state, their minds unable to comprehend the amazingness that I am describing.
Perhaps I will just have to have a celebration to ease the pain… that’s what they do on Gossip Girl right? Throw a party to avoid the pain? And you know my love affair with that show is still going strong, so a GG worthy event seems only appropriate… That being said, this party will require cozy attire, plenty of wine, spiced cider, apple pie, and corn bread stuffing; let’s be honest, holiday season is upon us and my stretchy pants can hardly wait.
What about you? What season do you obsess over love? How do you celebrate that season, and why?
I realize when I go back to Michigan in the winter I will be exponentially grateful for the LA climate when I return home, right now however, I am going to go don a sweater and pout.
* p.s. It was officially the first day of fall on the 22nd of September… so of course I made pumpkin chili (one of my very first recipes on the blog!), it felt so wrong… and yet so right.
