Hope is tricky.
In it's purest form it is a heart beat, a reason we get up in the morning. We show hope for the future simply by getting out of bed. But what happens when our hopes are dashed? Left among the jagged shoals of expectation. Heavy sighs of disappointment forcefully pressing us against the rocks, threatening our wellbeing if we aren't careful.
"Don't get your hopes up" rings in your ears, the kiss of death to childhood day dreams. But why? Why can't we hope for the things we want? Sure, the crushing weight of disappointment looms threateningly at the edges, but if we never hope for things we rob ourselves of joy and possibility.
I was recently given an incredible opportunity... it was then taken away in a matter of 24 hours. But in the hours prior to it's removal from my life, I dreamed, I hoped, I imaged what it would be like. When I opened the email canceling on my fully fledged daydreams I was devastated... how could this be?
I processed each and every syllable of the email as I flowed through my morning yoga routine.... how? why? how could I have changed that response?
Salute the sun.
With each breath I realized everything was as it should be. Life would go on, there WILL be more amazing opportunities, there is ALWAYS more to hope for.
Have hope my friends, be bold enough to dream, and when you feel dashed against the shore remember the sea is vast and full; you will have your moment in the sun (you may just have to wait for the clouds to clear and the storms to pass).
