It's official, I am now, more than ever, a Californian. Why now? (you may be asking yourself)... well, on top of being obsessed with Avocados (like... I could live on avocado ALONE), taking hikes/walks almost every day and falling in love with yoga, I have now also turned into a Meditation advocate. No, seriously, it is the best thing possibly ever.
Some friends of mine recently put out a podcast on the science of meditation which will blow your mind. They talk about how meditation is as good for your brain as exercise and reading! Also, it makes you a better person... no really. It thickens the part of your brain which controls empathy and reduces the irrational/angry/rage center, how amazing is that?! If that isn't motivation for meditation I don't know what is.
I mean, ok, I have only been meditating (consistently) for like two weeks, but I swear to you I already see/feel a change... and it's not just me, Drew has been meditating and we are seeing the changes in each other. ITS CRAZY.
Now, I used to try and meditate and I would get anxiety. So when I was looking at starting up a meditative practice I knew I couldn't just plop down on a rug and force myself to zen out... that doesn't really work for anyone (... doesn't work for most people, if it works for you GREAT). Drew introduced me to this App called HeadSpace, it is incredible. You can try it free for ten days and be the judge yourself. After just 8 days I bought a year membership... that is how into this I am right now!
You guys know me... I'm not really a band wagon person, I don't get 'into' things for a minute and then change gears... I get into things for the long haul (i.e. yoga). Me and meditation are becoming bosom buddies, thats all there is to it. Do yourself a favor and just try it, what can it hurt? NOTHING, it can really only be a couple of minutes 'lost' if you don't like it.
