One holiday down, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have passed (did you get anything good?) and now it’s on to attending copious amounts of parties, baking ten million cookies, decorating (everything), chestnuts roasting on an open fire and yuletide carols being sung by a choir… you know, the usual deeds that help to make the season bright. Not to mention all of the shopping one must do, post extreme chaos, to find the perfect gift! What a night mare. All of that pressure to select the most perfect and unique items for those on your list can be overwhelming and hella time consuming. I,personally, avoided the after Thanksgiving madness and sales because people get nasty and I am overwhelmed by the bombarding amounts of discount codes and TODAY ONLY notices popping up in my e-mail. Though in retro spec I did have my eye on some goodies that perhaps I should have purchased, but it’s now “Christmas Shopping Season” which means they will go on sale yet again.
That is why, my dear readers, I have done some searching and come up with a few websites (or shops if you are in the LA area) that are worth checking out, just incase you too decided to skip the crazy in hopes of finding something better. Enjoy!
Mohawk General Store will make you swoon. Their extremely curated selection of goodies to wear, read, smell, and live with, will make you want to purchase absolutely everything for everyone on your list. Not to mention they just opened up their Holiday Market right next to their location on Sunset!
Kelly Green (also on Sunset), has the most lovely selection of more green minded, sustainable, eco friendly products. So not only will you be getting gifts that are incredible, you can feel good about buying them and having a smaller carbon foot print this holiday season as well.
If you have a reader on your list Skylight Books is the place for you. They have a wide selection of literature in their main shop and just a door down the street they have the best designer books (art, illustration, graphic, lettering) and magazines to choose from.
You know those trendy bags that have been cropping up everywhere? The ones that are so simple and non assuming that you envy all who carry them? That is because those bags are from a company so well thought out, so well designed and so gosh darn good that you can’t help but want their wares. Apolis is your brand for making those in your life look classy and feel like the TBT. Your purchase will not only be a luxurious upgrade on the everyday products for your life, but it will also help a good cause, a real reason to make some purchases if you ask me.
Firefly on Abbot Kinney in Venice is one of the cutest little shops I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. It reminds me of the most amazing and well curated shop from back home called Lamb. Both stores are so well curated and have the very best selection of cards, goodies for the home and jewelry that will make you look absolutely fresh to death at all of those holiday parties.
We all have that person we just don’t know how to shop for. Not because they are difficult, but because they feel like they have impecable taste and already own (or would buy for themselves) everything their hearts would possibly desire. This is where Lawson-Fenning comes into play. How about buying that tough to buy for friend some Agate Book Ends!? Or perhaps a set of Bronze Antler Candle Holders with an adorable set of matches for setting the mood.
Lets face it, Scandinavia is for lovers and the goods they produce make my heart palpitate in ways I didn’t know possible. Huset on Abbot Kinney is a magical land of all things Scandinavia. Featuring products from byNord , by Malene Birger , Hay, and Marimekko (just to name a few) their selection is divine and anything you purchase is sure to thrill those who receive.
Yolk is just the cutest little shop, with the cutest goodies for your home, style, or that extra adorable kiddo in your life.
There is something to be said for a great bag. I mean, lets face it the Birkin Bag has brought women to tears and Louis Vuitton isn’t iconic for nothing. And although we would all die to receive one of those designer goodies from under the tree, Will Leather Goods is a far more down to earth, fancy free, gorgeous bag company that will absolutely do the trick.
Last but not least, Poketo, the absolutely adorable, cuter than cute, boutique based in the Arts District of LA. Their collection of artisan wares ranging form home, to travel, to books, to attire is sure to please even the most difficult of persons on your list.
Here is the plan, go get a glass of wine, a good snack, and put on your favorite holiday movie. Snuggle up with your laptop and do a little pre-holiday damage and put a serious dent in that shopping list.
While I realize gift giving isn’t the reason for the season and it is meant to be filled with love and joy and peace on earth, seeing the look on someones face when you hit the jackpot is just the greatest! Best of luck in the hunt for the perfect gift, don’t you worry I will update through the month with some more goodies for you to feast your eyes (and credit cards) upon.
Have you found any extra special places for a unique score this holiday season? Please do share with the class.
