I have recently rediscovered my love for sitting at a coffee shop and reading. It is so decadent! I LOVE IT. You may think I am weird for saying so, but I do not care.
Most people have no trouble going out and sitting somewhere with a good book or magazine; I however, have a hard time simply sitting. I like 'doing' things and while reading is a perfectly noble pastime (which I too adore), I often don't prioritize it due to all the other little shit I feel is more important.
This week Drew and I had a work/cation at the Ace Hotel (which I will expound upon later because it was amazing). One of the things I decided going into it was that I wanted to make time, at least an hour a day, for reading a book I found important to my life as a human being. I chose Malcolm Gladwells David and Goliath. YOU GUYS! Have you read this book?! It is incredible. It is blowing apart things I have thought about myself and ways I have looked at the world since birth (practically). This is neither here nor there... the point is that I took the time out of each day to sit and read (preferably while sipping a cup of coffee).
I found the time sipping and flipping (as we shall call it) so inspiring. I allowed myself to turn the pages of an old Harper's Bazaar at a little coffee shop, gazing at the mid 60's hair with awe and wonder, it was AMAZING. I read multiple chapters of David and Goliath in one sitting, which I haven't done in ages due to a buzzing brain which doesn't know what the word 'relax' means. It was so liberating.
Taking the time to expand your mind through the well written words of an author, no matter how famous (it could be a Malcolm Gladwell , J.K. Rowling or your favorite blogger), is always worth the time.
What are you reading these days? I will need a new book very soon.
