As I mentioned earlier this week, the ever dreaded holiday shopping season is upon us. This means that going to the mall to stock up on undies and tee shirts may not be ideal at this juncture (wait for Santa I am sure you will get underware in your stocking if you were good all year), although the people watching is divine so its a bit of a catch twenty two. I say enter at your own risk.
Given the fact that I am not a super fan of malls in general, I tend to opt for more local, boutique style shopping. Call me a snob, call me picky, but I rather like shopping in a space that I can walk through and not be crushed by a frantic mother and her screaming children (ok it’s really not that bad, and I do brave malls every now and again when the time calls for it). This partially explains my list of shops (local to LA, online for the rest of you) that I mentioned earlier this week. I realize however, that boutique shopping comes at a price, smaller shops with more limited over head usually means a bit higher of a price tag for their unique and oh so covetable wares.
And so I have opted to share with you a few sites that are divine shortcuts into the world of niche gift giving. But beware, you are going to want to purchase things for yourself, and seeing that we are t-minus 26 days until Christmas I sugest you resist all major self purchase (maybe a little reward for all your hard work wouldn’t hurt).
For the person who likes the finer things in life, venture over to Gilt. You will find fashions and embellishments (for literally every aspect of your life) to make your eyes swim with dreams of gracing the Sartorialists next Street Style post.
If you are looking to snatch up some fantastic vintage goodies or perhaps a piece or two from the greatest bloggers around (Oh Joy and Man Repeller are both participating in a buy for good event this weekend!) be sure to check out Copious. I am still figuring this one out, but I think it will be a fun tool for finding great collectable pieces.
If you find yourself shopping for some one who prefers things of the house ware variety, look no further. One Kings Lane offers up the latest and greatest in house hold items (by season) as well as one of a kind, curated, vintage findings.
By clicking the links I provided and signing up you will receive discounts or dollars towards your first purchase, who doesn’t love that!?
Remember you are buying for others… or at least that’s what we will tell ourselves. Happy shopping!
