I often write on the concept of “being who you are“, whether it be in your style or personality, your essence as a person flows from you like an old ladies perfume; thick and intoxicating. This isn’t to say you smell bad or musty, but rather to ask a question- what kind of a ‘scent’ are you giving off on the day to day? Are you a habitual user? Do you always wear Chanel No.5 or Lavender essential oils? Or do you like to change with the seasons? A warm inviting scent in the winter, something fresh and light for spring… you get where I am going.
I read a quote the other day by Caitlin Moran which said, ” When a women says, ‘I have nothing to wear!’, what she really means is, ‘There is nothing here for who I am supposed to be today.’” Is that not the most perfect way of looking at it? If we all knew what we wanted to wear every day, we would simply own a bunch of black pants and white t-shirts (wait… no… I really do want to wear that every day… but for the rest of you out there) this would get boring over time and we would crave change. How we dress ourselves is, partially, an expression of who we are as a person, and if we are being true to that idea, then who we are is constantly evolving (I would hope you aren’t still dressing as you did in JR. High and High School after all).
How you smell and what you wear do not a person make. However, learning to start each day thinking, “Who will I be today? How will I take on the days challenges? How can I be the best version of myself?” It is a big thought to wrap your little noggin around, but do try, I promise it’s worth it (some days are more rewarding than others, but it is always worth the effort).
